Apply now for the Wellington City Council Sport Development Programme. Guided by the Balance is Better principals, this programme focuses on the holistic development of participants from a competitive sport context.
The programme, which is funded by the Wellington City Council and overseen by Sport Wellington, grants money to a handful of regional sporting organizations to assist them in developing systems and structures that support the creation of a sport development programme within their respective organizations. The programme suggested should integrate and support established and pre-existing programmes/pathways, targeting emerging athletes' year 11 and above.
Successful organisations can receive funding up to $6,000 per year, which will be managed by Sport Wellington.
The funding can be used for athlete, coach, and programme development across a range of areas such as:
- character development
- mental skills support
- strength and conditioning support
- coaching workshop
- training camps
- performance planning
The funding is given to sports to develop internal capability and support their programme and pathways. Funding is not given to individual athletes for travel to events and competitions, and in instances sports are given adequate time to develop systems and processes that will allow for people to realise their true potential.
