Tū Manawa Funding Streams

We offer three types of funding streams to support projects that enhance physical activity opportunities for tamariki and rangatahi:

Smaller Project Fund (Up to $10,000)

Open Fund (Above $10,000)

Kaupapa Māori Fund (By Māori, as Māori, for Māori)

Smaller Project Fund
(Up to $10,000)

The Smaller Project Fund is open year-round. Applications are reviewed by our Small Funds Panel, which meets around the middle of each month to assess applications submitted in the previous month.

For example:

  • Applications submitted by 31 July will be reviewed in mid-August.

  • Applications submitted on 1 August will be reviewed in mid-September.

Successful applicants will be notified shortly after the panel meeting.

Opening date: 1 July 2025 (9 AM)

Closing date: 31 May 2026


Open Fund (Above $10,000)

The Open Fund operates through three funding rounds each year. Panel meetings are typically held two weeks after the closing date, with decisions communicated shortly after.

​​​​​​​Kaupapa Māori Fund

The Kaupapa Māori pathway is for projects that are by Māori, as Māori, for Māori. Applications can be submitted under either the Smaller Project or Open Fund and are assessed according to the same timelines.

To apply through this pathway, simply indicate on the application form that your project aligns with Kaupapa Māori. These applications will then be reviewed by a panel led by Māori from our region.
