Coaching

Ensuring young people have positive, meaningful experiences in sport.

Coaches play a vital role in shaping the sporting experiences of our young people. More than just teaching the skills of the game, they are mentors and role models who have the power to positively influence the development and wellbeing of rangatahi, both on and off the field. That’s why it’s essential to develop and support the coaches who guide them.

Supporting Coach Development

At Nuku Ora, we’re committed to growing the capability of quality coaches working with rangatahi across the Wellington region.

We work in partnership with national and regional sports organisations, as well as secondary schools, to deliver coach development opportunities that enhance experiences and support lifelong participation in sport.

Great coaching not only improves performance, it also contributes to the holistic development and wellbeing of our young people.

Student Coach Development

In partnership with College Sport Wellington and regional sports organisations, Nuku Ora delivers student coaching workshops for both summer and winter codes.

These workshops are often the first step in a young person’s coaching journey and are designed to equip student coaches with the tools, confidence, and knowledge to deliver positive experiences for the junior teams they support.

The Regional Coach
Developer Network

Nuku Ora proudly facilitates the Wellington Coach Developer Network - a collaborative initiative that builds the capability of those who support and develop coaches.

Coach developers play a crucial role in guiding coaches through:

  • Formal training. Workshops, training sessions, and assessments to equip coaches with the skills and knowledge they need.

  • On-the-ground support. Mentoring, real-time feedback, and encouragement to help coaches grow and learn through experience.

  • Resources and insights. The network gathers insights from the field to identify needs and deliver tailored workshops, expert speakers, and practical tools.

Are you a coach developer based in the Wellington region?

We’re keen to connect with you. The network offers a supportive space to learn, share ideas, and grow together.
