Like the water that flows through our rohe, connecting us and providing energy and vitality, we believe that when physical activity flows through our communities, it strengthens connection, enhances health and wellbeing,
and brings joy, especially when it is accessible to everyone.

Our Nuku Ora whakataukī speaks to the joy and vitality that come from moving our bodies.

Our name, Nuku Ora, represents movement, life, activity, and joy. It captures the outcome we seek to achieve - to enhance the hauora and wellbeing of individuals, whānau, and communities through physical activity.

We are committed to supporting individuals, whānau, and communities from Ōtaki in the west to Eketāhuna in the east, and Wellington City in the south.

We lead, guide, and facilitate accessible, inclusive, and appealing physical activity initiatives across Te Upoko o te Ika a Māui (The earliest known name for theWellington region).

As trusted advocates and champions for physical activity and movement, we work alongside communities to support and empower people to achieve their hauora aspirations through active recreation, sport, play, and ngā taonga tākaro.

Our Strategic Direction

Our 12-year strategic outcome is to improve the hauora and wellbeing of individuals, whānau, and communities through increased physical activity. Our primary focus is to lift physical activity levels across the rohe, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate and enjoy being active.

Our strategy is about creating real change - by prioritising the needs of communities, making options available to everyone, and focusing on the shifts that will have the greatest impact across the region.

Our Commitment to
Te Tiriti o Waitangi

We acknowledge the mana whenua of our region: Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki, Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Taranaki Whānui, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa, and Rangitāne o Wairarapa.

We view Te Tiriti o Waitangi as a living document - protecting and promoting the interests of tangata whenua and establishing the foundation for enduring, respectful partnerships.
