Championing Equity in Sport and Recreation

Equity isn’t a nice-to-have; it’s a must-have. Everyone has a role to play in driving positive change to create a more inclusive and equitable sport and recreation environment in Aotearoa.

Aligned with the Sport NZ Women and Girls Strategy, Nuku Ora is focused on four key outcomes - leadership, participation, value, and visibility. By addressing these priorities, we aim to empower and support all women and girls as active participants, athletes, and leaders.

Wine, Cheese, and Wāhine Initiatives

At Nuku Ora, a key driver of this change is through our Wine, Cheese, and Wāhine Initiatives series. This quarterly event is designed to foster connection, education, and empowerment among wāhine and their supporters across the region. Originally launched to support local sport and recreation leaders advocating for women and girls, it has since grown to welcome a diverse audience, including club board members, coaches, community groups, and passionate individuals.

More than just an event, it's a growing community

It provides a platform to:

  • Amplify female voices and visibility of the amazing local initiatives supporting women and girls in sport and active recreation

  • Offer resources and upskilling opportunities

  • Facilitate networking and collaboration across the region
