Tākaro allows tamariki to have fun, joy, and laughter in a meaningful way. Tākaro is necessary to help tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and communities in their development and supports them to be physically fit and healthy, regardless of age or ability.

How Nuku Ora supports tākaro
Tākaro is one of four ways Nuku Ora supports tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and communities across the region stay active. alongside physical education, active recreation, and sport.
Ngā tamariki earliest physical experiences are through tākaro. Tākaro improves the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of tamariki. They also learn about the world, themselves and the skills they need for study, work and relationships.
