How does Nuku Ora supports tākaro (play)
Tākaro is one of the four ways Nuku Ora supports tamariki, rangatahi, whānau, and communities across the region stay active. Tākaro allows tamariki to have fun, joy, and laughter in a meaningful way.
Ngā tamariki earliest physical experiences are through tākaro. Tākaro improves the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of tamariki. They also learn about the world, themselves and the skills they need for study, work and relationships.
Te Wiki Tākaro 2023 (Play Week)
Nuku Ora Te wiki Tākaro (play week), November 6–12, 2023, is the celebration of tākaro (play) via the Atua energies and its value to tamariki, whānau, and communities across our region and Aotearoa. It’s about encouraging tākaro at home, in the neighbourhood, and in local settings, including schools.
Throughout this week, Nuku Ora will encourage tākaro by releasing an activity daily on our social media, so keep your eyes peeled!
Bring tākaro (play) to life;
- Play Stencils
- Play Trailers around the region
- Funding to support tākaro in your school through Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa
