Facilities are essential elements of community infrastructure – they are the spaces and places where activity happens and are crucial to the health and wellness of our region. Nuku Ora work alongside clubs, RSOs, councils, schools and community organisations supporting and advising on facility projects.

Nuku Ora, in partnership with the sector are working toward a one-region approach to providing an accessible, fit-for purpose regional network of quality spaces and places that support and encourage physical activity (play, active recreation, sport).

In 2022 Nuku Ora formed the Regional Spaces & Places Steering Group. The group meet bi-monlthy and representatives include all eight councils, Sport NZ & Nuku Ora. The purpose of the steering group is to maintain strategic oversight of the Regional Spaces & Places Framework (2019) and to support and enable its implementation.

The Regional Spaces & Places Steering Group consider and provide advice / guidance to projects of ‘regional significance’, ultimately endorsing those where it is agreed the project is beneficial for the region. Entities and groups wishing to engage the Regional Spaces & Places Seering Group are to contact Nuku Ora in the first instance.

For more information or to request support for your facility project (no matter the size or scale), contact Lily Joiner, Partnership Advisor: Spaces & Places.  As at January 2023.
