Ball Never Lies, Ball Never Lies Program | $34,000

A sport programme consisting of basketball training and school holiday sessions, primarily based in Upper Hutt. This programme aims to support both boys and girls aged between 10 – 17 years, particularly those who live in high deprivation areas and who have financial constraints.


Biketec, DirtSkool | $87,249

Via an active recreation initiative, Biketec provides opportunities to secondary school students to experience and learn the wide variety of physical and mental skills required by mountain biking. Biketec has partnered with eight targeted schools in the region to remove barriers to participation and get these rangatahi active.

Capital Zone Basketball, Kiwi Hoops | $40,000

Kiwi Hoops is a sport programme providing fun, innovative and quality experiences through basketball in a number of areas across the region. The Kiwi Hoops "pay it forward" initiative is flexible and enables schools from lower to medium ranged decile ratings in high deprivation areas to access this positive-experienced based programme for more tamariki in 2021 and beyond.

Cricket Wellington, Naenae Cricket Festival | $12,094

Naenae Cricket Festival supports tamariki (aged 4 - 12 years) and their Naenae whānau an opportunity to engage in physical activity. The Naenae Cricket Festival will deliver a 6-week fundamental movement sport programme, focusing on developing core functioning and movement skills in a fun and safe environment.


Cricket Wellington, Women and Girls Project | $15,300

This sport initiative looks to provide effective and enjoyable participation opportunities for women and girls primarily through the delivery of a school holiday programme. The focus of this project seeks to deliver more opportunities for females to get involved with the game, with Cricket Wellington partnering with a number of cricket clubs and community organisations in the region.


Cricket Wellington, Women and Girls Project Extension | $25,047

This sport initiative looks to support participation opportunities for women and girls in the region via two key programmes: Summer Smash, an opportunity for girls to meet, socialise and play together in Porirua and Miramar, in which participants play modified cricket games and learn new skills in a fun, friendly environment. Female Festival Days; this brings together participants from all female-only initiatives including the year 2 - 4 programme, Yeah! Girls programme, term 4 college girls indoor competition, and female cricket teams in Central Wellington and Porirua.


dSport, Youth Programme |  $76,478

An active recreation initiative to support parts of dsport’s "Youth Programme" in the region. This programme is to support those with a disability to access opportunities such as the Halberg Games, Kids Get Active Day and Powerchair Football.


Hutt City Council, Pukutakaro | $42,925

Pukutakaro is a play-based physical literacy project which visits some Lower Hutt schools outside of curriculum time for two weeks of WOW play opportunities. The project aims to generate curiosity among students which leads to the motivation to participate in play. 


Hutt City Council, Yoga in Schools | $22,680

This active recreation initiative was created out of a partnership between Hutt City Council and Seedling Yoga in 2017. The Yoga in Schools sessions aim to emphasise the benefit of gentle movement and create safe and supportive classrooms. This is an equity-promoting project, with delivery occurring in low decile schools in Lower Hutt.


Kāpiti Coast District Council, School Sports Programme | $42,000

A sport initiative offering a diverse programme of activation events to Kāpiti tamariki from all 17 Kāpiti primary schools (years 4 - 8). Delivered by the School Sports Coordinator, the programme will collaborate with a variety of groups to delivery schools innovative, quality events and activations throughout the school year. Groups to be involved include, colleges, local sports clubs and community groups.


Kelly Sports Porirua, Connect and Activate | $38,342

Bringing together groups from all 16 Primary Schools in the Porirua area on a weekly basis, this sport initiative will operate in Term two and three of 2021. The multi-sport programme will be held at Te Rauparaha Arena providing a quality experience for the students to look forward to each week.


Nature Schools NZ Trust, Bush Sprouts Programme | $34,000

A play initiative primarily based in Porirua schools split across two programmes: Nature School is delivered one day a week where children spend time learning from and through play in nature, Bush Sprouts is a similar programme that facilitates children’s free play in nature in their local bush space.

OnBoard Skate, Girls Skateboard Crew | $50,000

This active recreation programme delivers to several areas across the region. The Girls Skateboard Crew offers girls and women-only skateboard sessions working with local champions, local community groups and various schools across the region. The Wainuiomata Active Transport Project delivers locally led skateboard programmes, working with a number of community groups and schools.


Outward Bound Trust, Kora Programme | $40,000

The Kora Programme is an active recreation programme delivered to students at Taita, Tawa, Porirua and Heretaunga Colleges. Activities include tramping, waka ama, rock climbing, ropes course, mountain biking, canyoning and physical training. Kora students will engage with, learn about, contribute to, and help their local community in various ways. This could include involvement with local iwi, youth services, habitat restoration, predator control, e.g. with Forest and Bird, Department of Conservation, or local council.


Ricoh Sports Centre, Journeys | $29,000

Journeys is a daily, offsite opportunity for tamariki and rangatahi (5 – 15 years) to explore sport, with a focus on relationship building. Operating in Lower Hutt, the programme acts as a new shop-window to local sports clubs. Co-designed sports offerings are led by BGI but supported by the clubs a part of the Fraser Park Sportsville community. 


Sense Rugby (New Zealand) Trust, School Delivery | $29,700

This active recreation programme is designed to support tamariki and rangatahi who usually cannot access mainstream sport and exercise opportunities due to their developmental challenges or disabilities. Currently delivering in Kāpiti and Wellington schools, the adapted rugby sessions provide a safe space for participants to try a team sport and to experience being part of the sporting community.


Shift Foundation, Lower Hutt, Wairarapa, Wellington Delivery | $58,950

This active recreation initiative delivered by the Shift Foundation promotes physical activity, lead by co-design with different groups of female rangatahi around the region. The programmes created by these groups include the Intermediate Programme (Lower Hutt), Te Tauoranga (Wairarapa), Shift Tourney (Summer and Winter), Shift Lunchtimes, and a Social Sport Prototype.


Wairarapa Cricket Association, Kia Hākinakina | $135,250

The Kia Hākinakina project is designed to develop pathways for young people through fundamental movement skills and play. The project has the purpose of bringing about a life-long love of physical activity for all within the Wairarapa region. This collaborative project includes partnerships with regional sports organisations and a local primary school cluster. Together they will help to create the physical activity outcome of connected communities across school, club and wider community environments.


Wairarapa Youth Charitable Trust, Boxing Academy | $40,000

Based in the Wairarapa, this sport programme provides high-quality experiences through sessions delivered by licenced coaches in an environment that is motivational and supportive. The outcomes are closely aligned with the physical literacy needs of primary and secondary aged youth.


Wellington City Council - Recreation Facilities, Tri-Activate Programme | $65,305.80   

The Tri-Activate active recreation programme will be shared between three facilities (ASB Sports Centre, Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre and Kilbirnie Recreation Centre) offering swim, skate and play opportunities for tamariki, specifically targeting lower decile schools in the Wellington Region.


Wesley Community Action, Life Up Programme / After School Programme | $23,000

Providing sporting opportunities for young people in Porirua East, the Life Up programme provides opportunities to participate for young people who face cost as a barrier to participation. The 8-week after school programme involves a range of activities focused on physical activity, including swimming, boxing and fitness.


YMCA Central Inc, Kia Kaha Ake | $40,000 

A sport programme in Porirua at Te Rauparaha Arena and in Masterton, offering different sports each term. This programme enables schools and communities to access these leagues at a subsidised rate, removing barriers to participation for tamariki and rangatahi.


YMCA Central Inc, Wahine Mana Mauri | $50,000

This active recreation programme provides 100 girls and young women from high deprivation areas the opportunity to participate in a 14-day residential outdoor adventure experience for free called Wahine Mana Mauri. These group will participate in such activities as mountain biking, water activities such as kayaking & raft building, high ropes, group fitness, canyoning, and tramping with a 3-day expedition.


FAST FUND YEAR 1

Badminton Hutt Valley, Shuttletime | $7,400

A sport application providing Badminton Shuttletime sessions to public schools in the Naenae and Taita area. Shuttletime sessions are designed to suit the needs of children of every age, with aspects of co-design involved. Sessions are either delivered in the school halls or alternatively Badminton Hutt Valleys’ hall in Naenae.


Diabetes Youth Wellington, Youth Camp | $8,335

An active recreation initiative centred around Diabetes Youth Wellington’s respective Youth Camps. Activities include swimming, water activities, tyre wall, bush survival, orienteering, archery, bike riding, rafting, and more. Activities are helpful for participant confidence around being active while managing their diabetes.

Fergusson Intermediate, Boxing Classes | $7,000

A morning boxing class programme is a sport initiative based in Upper Hutt to provide opportunities for disengaged pupils to be more physically active in a setting where they feel a sense of belonging.

Hutt City Council, Fitness Classes | $2,245

Providing those in Lower Hutt with a disability the opportunity to participate in weekly group fitness classes. The intention of this active recreation initiative is to enhance well-being and build community while being active. Importantly, the sessions are followed by morning tea, where class participants can build connections and relationships. 

Masterton District Council, Run and Become | $5,400

This active recreation initiative provides a unique physical activity opportunity to children and their whānau. The programme is linked with the annual Wellington Round the Bays 6.5km Fun Run/Walk. Physical Activity Leadership (PAL) workshops are delivered, providing skills and confidence to enable children to work effectively with other pupils to co-design and implement physical activity training sessions at their schools to prepare for Wellington Round the Bays 2021.


Nature School NZ Trust, Bush Sprouts Extension | $6,800   

An extension of the Bush Sprouts programme funded through the Open Fund, this application was to support the delivery of this programme to further schools within Porirua. Bush Sprouts is a long-term, weekly programme that facilitates children’s free play in nature in their local bush space. 


Netball Hutt Valley Centre Inc, Year 9 and 10 Netball | $1,170  

A sport programme aimed at rangatahi in Taita and Naenae communities. This programme is designed to support the transition from year 8 into year 9 and provide a quality experience to students in their first year of secondary school, making them feel comfortable in new environments and allow them to have a great sport experience which will lead to continued participation in sport in their teen years.


Netball Wellington Centre, Netfest Sessions | $6,324

A sport programme offered after kura to year 5 and 6 students in Wellington. This bilingual netball programme aims to support tamariki to play Netball, helping to keep them connected to sport and to the fun and enjoyment that sport can provide.

Paekākāriki School, Activate Barefoot Learners | $4,355

This active recreation project is aimed at supporting students at Paekākāriki School to be safe and active in their local community. This programme focuses on cycling as a form of fitness and an avenue to provide engaging and challenging activities for all students.


Porirua City Council, Run and Become | $4,738

This active recreation initiative provides a unique physical activity opportunity to children and their whānau. The programme is linked with the annual Wellington Round the Bays 6.5km Fun Run/Walk. Physical Activity Leadership (PAL) workshops are delivered, providing skills and confidence to enable children to work effectively with other pupils to co-design and implement physical activity training sessions at their schools to prepare for Wellington Round the Bays 2021.


Porirua Whanau Centre, Creekfest Delivery | $5,000

An active recreation initiative to promote, manage and run the Wiremu Taurima Basketball programme as a Creekfest activity for tamariki and rangatahi in Porirua. Capital Basketball is involved, leading the facilitation of mini-games, both structured and unstructured, to entertain whānau. Note that this activation has been postponed until April 7.

Sense Rugby (New Zealand) Trust, Community Group Delivery | $9,300

This active recreation programme is designed to support tamariki and rangatahi, who usually cannot access mainstream sport and exercise opportunities due to their developmental challenges or disabilities. Currently delivering into communities in Kāpiti and Wellington, the adapted rugby sessions provide a safe space for participants to try a team sport and to experience being part of the sporting community.


The Wellington City Mission Anglican Trust Board, Play Day | $9,725

"Play Day" was born to create opportunities for children in Wellington to participate in activities and learn new fun games. The games are designed so the children can take them into their communities using parks, open spaces and their own backyards. A Play trailer containing equipment to enable kids to continue participating formally or just at the local park will be present at these activations.


Titahi Bay Amateur Athletics Club, Athletics and Play in the Bay | $7,500

A sport initiative to support delivery of junior athletics and nursery play-based programme for kids aged 5 - 16 in Titahi Bay. Expansion of the coaching programme and the purchase of new fit-for-purpose athletics and play-based equipment enables quality participation opportunities.


Upper Hutt Community Youth Trust, Young Men Programme | $9,950

This active recreation project is based in Upper Hutt and involves a number of active recreation providers giving young men the opportunity to experience different ways of being active. Backed up with one-on-one mentoring of the young men where appropriate to help them to gain confidence and experience, this programme aims to help participants realise that they can achieve and be good at something while gaining a sense of belonging and purpose.


Waikanae Rugby Football Club, Nursery Programme Extension | $1,810

This sport programme aims to provide children with a secure and supportive environment that focuses on participation, enjoyment and learning of movement skills. While the programme develops core movement skills through play, it also improves social and cognitive skills, skills that can be transferred to any sport.


Wellington City Council, Play Days | $10,000

A play initiative providing a series of free Play Days in high deprivation areas around Wellington City. The project aims to work in partnership with organisations to provide quality experiences to bring communities together and promote the importance and simplicity of play.


Wesley Community Action, Muay Thai Kickboxing programme | $10,000

An active recreation initiative, Muay Thai kickboxing is a programme for young people in the eastern and southern suburbs of Wellington. The sessions are held in the evening from the Strathmore Community Centre and provide a disciplined programme where participants have opportunities to participate in a managed environment.


YMCA Central Inc, Respite Camp | $10,000

Through this active recreation initiative, YMCA Central recognises that attending camp is beneficial to every child’s personal development. The experience teaches essential leadership and social skills and helps youth develop confidence and independence. YMCA camps support the social-emotional growth, cognitive development, and physical well-being of kids.
