Tēnā koutou katoa,

Thank you to everyone who attended a feedback workshop or completed the survey for our Nuku Ora Event Review. Your participation and the feedback provided has been greatly appreciated.

The Event Review Project Team collated all the survey submissions, analysed the feedback from the workshops and there were some really valuable insights gained from these.

In summary, key findings from the feedback received through our consultation process were:

  • There is a strong desire from the sport sector for sporting achievements to continue to be acknowledged and celebrated each year in the wider Wellington region. There were some thoughts shared as to how the event could be tailored to make it more accessible and to provide greater opportunity for networking and also in regards to the catering, the duration of the event, and the level of theming and entertainment.
  • There is a desire from within our wider sector for a community/hāpori celebration event that recognises the positive impacts being achieved through mahi in the play and active recreation spaces.

With the Nuku Ora Board having now considered the feedback provided and the recommendations put forward from the Event Review Project Team, the following outcomes are now being progressed.

For 2024 and beyond, Nuku Ora will collaborate with the sector regarding the ongoing delivery of the awards and incorporating some of the suggestions received through our consultation process. During our review period, some key representatives from Regional Sports Organisations decided to run the Wellington Sports Awards but due to financial and time constraints, it is no longer going ahead. We would like to acknowledge the group for their mahi and will continue to collaborate with them for future awards.

Nuku Ora will also work towards the development and delivery of a community/hāpori celebration event in 2024. We will continue to engage with our communities and stakeholders as to the framework, delivery model, and timing of this.

Once again, thank you for your engagement in our review and particularly to those who participated in the workshops and survey.  We truly value your contribution and will continue to communicate around this as our mahi progresses, in response to what we have heard.
